Guardian>What is Guardian?>What we do
-
Guardian is a Healthy Planet project which connects you with conservation of protected areas throughout the world. You become a 'Guardian' by choosing hectares or square kilometers of protected areas and helping HP's partners working on the ground to map, monitor and protect those areas for the future, from the comfort of your home. These protected areas are both terrestrial (land) based and marine and occur throughout the world. We have a set of priority parks in which our partner organisations are working towards sustainable conservation or which are under imminent threat.
-
As someone who wishes to balance the needs of humans with those of nature you can
take responsibility for a section of park and help map and monitor it from your own home. You can also support conservation actions in a park by funding organisations working on the ground who work to
balance local people’s needs with the sustained protection of nature.
- Guardians like you can manage their donation and can choose annually which park, project and organisation to support. Our partner organisations which carry out the work feed-back information on their achievements to the community of Guardians supporting a park using our interactive web-based systems.
- The difficult part has already
been achieved; national and international politicians are now convinced
that these areas are in need of protection and they have been mapped
out as protected. Now, this protection needs to be catalogued, actioned and resourced so these
parks are protected in reality, not just on paper. You and the rest of
the Guardian community in your park can be the difference between the
park surviving the next 100 environmentally challenging years or not.
